About the Symposium

Joint International EMC Gathering

This edition brought together two established EMC symposia: the 9th International Symposium on EMC under the EMC Europe umbrella and the 20th International Wroclaw Symposium on EMC. The combined programme offered a broad scope of topics spanning electromagnetic compatibility theory, measurement techniques, and practical applications.

Co-organizers included the EMC Section of the Electronics and Telecommunications Committee of the Polish Academy of Science, with technical co-sponsorship from the IEEE EMC Society.

The EMC Europe 2010 symposium in Wroclaw represented a significant milestone as it united two long-standing conference traditions under one roof. By merging the established EMC Europe series with the venerable International Wroclaw Symposium on EMC, the event created an unusually comprehensive technical programme. Attendees from across the continent and beyond gathered to share the latest developments in electromagnetic compatibility research, from fundamental measurement techniques to emerging challenges in electronic system design. The collaborative spirit of this joint gathering set a precedent for future cooperative symposia, demonstrating how shared expertise can advance the field more effectively than isolated meetings.

The technical programme in Wroclaw spanned a full week of paper presentations, workshops, and tutorial sessions covering the breadth of EMC science. Regular papers delved into topics such as shielding effectiveness, signal integrity, and emission modelling, while special sessions highlighted niche areas of growing concern within the community. Workshop organisers and short course instructors provided hands-on perspectives that complemented the formal lecture sessions, allowing participants to deepen their practical understanding. This balanced approach between theory and application ensured that both academic researchers and industry professionals found value in the symposium's offerings.

Wroclaw itself provided a fitting backdrop for this international gathering, with its historic market square and riverside setting offering ample opportunities for informal networking beyond the technical sessions. The symposium fostered connections that would endure long after the final paper had been presented, as specialists from different corners of the EMC community discovered common ground in their work. The success of this joint endeavour reinforced the value of bringing together diverse perspectives within electromagnetic compatibility, encouraging organisers of future symposia to pursue similarly collaborative models for advancing the discipline across Europe and beyond.
